Race for Life
Congratulations to Mrs Knight, Mrs Campbell (Primary), Mrs Gray (Care Team), Mrs Negus and Mrs McDougall (from the office) who completed the 5km Race for Life on Sunday 25th July in 50 minutes. They raised money for Cancer Research UK.
Send My Friend To School 2010
In July, pupils in the Secondary department took part in the national ‘Send My Friend To School’ campaign, organised by Mrs Bolton. They wrote to Mr David Cameron, the Prime Minister, to highlight the fact that 72 million children around the world do not have access to an education. The pupils produced a long paper scarf made from their designs. Mr Cameron has replied with a letter to thank them for taking part in the campaign.
Summer Fun Day
Thank you to all those who came to our Fun Day on Saturday 10th July. It was a glorious day with a very good turn out. We raised an amazing £1225 for the school! Please visit our Gallery to see some pictures from the day, under St Giles School Events.
Panathlon Challenge
The Croydon team, including pupils from St Giles, Priory and Bensham Manor schools, gained 2nd place in the London Panathlon final on Thursday 24th June. Congratulations to all involved!
Croydon girls and boys win London Youth Games
Well done to the Croydon girls and boys team who both won gold at the London Youth Games on Thursday 10th June. The team consisted of pupils from St Giles, Priory and Bensham Manor schools, as well as a few others.
St Giles team wins London Youth Games boccia tournament!
Congratulations to Shaun, Abdullah, Tyrone and Andrew who won the finals at the London Youth Games boccia tournament on Tuesday 25th May, with help from two pupils from Priory School.
Teaching Awards 2010
Congratulations to Ms Lynda Williams, our Head of PE, who was nominated for a national Teaching Award. She was presented with her certificate by pop star Gabrielle.
Pop star Gabrielle visits St. Giles!
Singer Gabrielle joined us for our Secondary assembly on Monday 10th May to receive a cheque from Tyrone. He completed the Virgin wheelchair mini-marathon along with four other pupils and raised over £1000 for The AADC Research Trust which is run by Lisa Flint, the mother of another pupil at the school. Gabrielle said ‘ I’m proud to be here to collect a cheque for the AADC Trust in such an amazing environment. I want to say well done to all who took part for this amazing achievement!’

Open Morning
We are holding an Open Morning on Wednesday 28th April from 9.30 – 11.30am. Please come along if you would like to look around the school and see what we do.
Wheelchair Mini-Marathon
Congratulations to Daniel, Shaun, Tyrone, Michael and Darrell who all took part in the wheelchair mini-marathon on Sunday 25th April.
Specialist School celebration
Fiona Phillips, star of GMTV, visited St Giles on 17th March to help us celebrate our Specialist School status. We were able to show invited guests around the school, and pupils performed songs and poems.
After her visit, Fiona said ‘ I was completely blown away by St. Giles Specialist School and feel so privileged to have been invited to meet the wonderful staff and children. It was a truly inspiring experience.’ Fiona was presented an original abstract painting of the school by Louis in Y10.
World Book Day
We will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 4th March. Pupils and staff can come to school dressed as a book character, and we will have a parade and prize for the best costume. Pupils will also be able to choose a story they would like to listen to.
Enterprise week
Thank you to all those who came to our Enterprise Fair on Friday 5th February. It was a great success and there were lots of tempting goodies on sale. We raised £650 which will be used to subsidise school journeys for our pupils.
Waitrose Community Matters
Waitrose in central Croydon have chosen us as one of their charities for February in their ‘Community Matters’ scheme. If you go shopping there, please put your green token in the slot for St. Giles!
Valentines Disco
The Valentine’s Disco is on Saturday 6th February from 12.00-3.00pm. Tickets cost £3 and there is a choice of hot food available. Please contact the school office if you would like to get a ticket.
Haiti Appeal
The school held a mufti day on Friday 22nd January and raised an incredible £456 towards the Haiti appeal. The money raised will go to UNICEF to help children affected by the earthquake. Thank you to all the pupils, their families and the staff for their generosity – it is most heartwarming.
Wyevale Garden Centre Competition
Congratulations to Class 3 who won a competition run by the Wyevale Purley Way Garden Centre for designing a bird box. The class were presented with bird feeders and nest boxes for the school grounds. The centre manager Dylan Berry said ‘It was an outstanding effort’.
Croydon Council Awards
St. Giles has won the ‘Special School of the Year’ award at the Croydon Council Awards which took place at the Hilton Hotel on Tuesday 13th October. Congratulations to all involved with the school – this is a great recognition of the work that we do.
London Youth Games
St Giles won the best placed team at the London Youth Games and Mini Marathon celebration evening on Friday 16th October! Well done to all the pupils involved.
Wear it pink
Staff and pupils who ‘Wore it Pink’ on Friday 16th October raised £82 for Breast Cancer research!
Fashion Show
October 5th 09 – Thank you to all those who supported the Fashion Show last week. A total of £395.92 was raised.
Jeans for Genes
Jeans for Genes was well supported with a range of denim worn! We raised £80 for the charity!
